The team

Avocado farmland sits between two worlds. You have to know how an orchard actually grows, and you have to know how capital behaves. The people below cover both. Between them they have opened export markets, built and sold companies, audited filings, and run the science of growing things in hard places.

Eloy Vargas

Chief Executive Officer

Eloy has founded more than ten agricultural companies across a twenty-year career. In 2005 he was part of the effort that opened Mexican avocado markets to North America and Asia. As secretary of economic development for Michoacán he promoted investment in the state and positioned the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas as a leading cargo port. MBA from UMSNH, with a specialization in private equity management from IPADE.

Pedro Somarriba

Chief Commercial Officer

Pedro has spent twenty-five years in strategic business development and finance. He co-founded AVO works (a separate company), which reached more than $80 million in annual sales within two years. As CEO of Globalpack, a JPMorgan private-equity portfolio company with $300 million in annual sales, he led the company through a successful sale and helped raise $150 million through an IPO. Before that, ten years at PwC US as an auditor and consultant on M&A and SEC filings. Graduated with honors from The Citadel.

Francisco Escobar

Chief Financial Officer

Francisco has worked roughly thirteen years in finance and founded Asymmetrica Investments AG. He was previously at Peter Pühringer, in PwC Asset Management consulting, and as an investment advisor at Earl Capital AG in Switzerland. He is a graduate of the Vienna University of Economics and has passed all CAIA and CFA exams.

Dr. Liliana Pérez Manríquez

Chief Business Development Officer

Liliana has fifteen years of international business development across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, working with Fortune 500 companies, startups, government, academia, and NGOs. She holds a PhD in Bioscience from KAUST and has studied business at Harvard Business School, Cornell, and Erasmus University Rotterdam.
